United have a chance to regain their former star
LONDON (Reuters) - Manchester United could sign Memphis Depay, the star of Lyon, in the upcoming transfer window, according to British media reports.
According to the newspaper "The Independent" British, Manchester United has the priority to buy Debay from Lyon, according to the contract between the two clubs.
Depay, 25, joined Manchester United from PSV in 2015 but failed to prove himself at Old Trafford.
Since moving to France, Debye has revived his career, scoring 50 goals in 130 matches in all competitions.
"It is true that Manchester United have a priority to buy back Memphis. These things exist in football but so far we have not received anything about it," Brazilian sports director Juninho told reporters.
Depay's contract with Lyon expires in the summer of 2021, the end of next season.
"It is difficult for the club to persuade him to stay in France," he said. "Every time there is only one year left to hold a player, talks about renewal are a bit difficult, but I think he is really happy in Lyon."
"It's also the same with Moussa Dembele, but everyone here understands, if you want to win titles again and fight in the Champions League, it's important to keep players like them for a long time."
"At the moment, we haven't started negotiations with Memphis. We will start discussing extending his contract by the end of the year," the Brazilian said.
