Mahira Khan Goodwill Ambassador to Pakistan

Pakistani star Mahira Khan was chosen as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

Mahira, 34, shared her good news on her own Twitter account. ".

Prior to the selection, Mahira visited Afghan refugees in Peshawar last year, as part of a high-level UN delegation. She also spoke of the needs of more than 1.4 million registered Afghan refugees in Pakistan in media interviews.

"Pakistan has set an example for the world, having hosted refugees for the past 40 years, and that's something I think should be talked about, especially as Pakistan's National Goodwill Ambassador," Khan said in a video shared with the UNHCR official page.

Mahera is not the only star in Bollywood who has been selected as the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, where NGO, a civil society organization working in the fight against hunger in India, chose Sonam Kapoor to be a Goodwill Ambassador. In 2016, Kapoor visited the Shota Sion Hospital to fight hunger, met with malnourished mothers and children, and spoke to hospital staff.

Many Bollywood stars have also done humanitarian work such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who last year shared social networking sites at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
